Kodaiji temple belongs to the Kenninji School of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism.
Hideyoshi Toyotomi's wife Kitanomandokoro (Nene or Kodaiin) established this temple by Ieyasu Tokugawa's financial support in 1660.
The purpose of establishment is to enshrine the soul of Hideyoshi.
Precincts in the temple have become small more than it establishes it.
However, Kaizan-dou (Otamaya) beautifully remains creation at first.
It is designated as Important Cultural Asset.
It is decorated with supreme examples of Japanese lacquer work.

The stroll garden around the pond was created by Kobori Enshu.
