Kenninji

This temple belongs to the Rinzai sect of the Buddhism.
Monk Eisai known by importing the first tea in Japan founded this temple in 1202.
It is the oldest Zen sect buddhist temple in Kyoto.
Eisai is a founder of Rinzai sect.
"Hojo hall" and "Chokushimon gate" are important cultural assets.
In the work of art, there is a folding screen painting of "The God of wind and the God of the Thunder" by Sotatsu Tawaraya.
This is specified for the national treasure.
Besides this, a lot of paintings and writings (important cultural asset) in the Momoyama period are preserved as temple treasure.
